The platform
Every piece of work set for you is worth something, the same amount for everybody. What you score on it is never part of the sum.
Points are how the platform keeps track of work done. They are not a mark and they are not a report: your parent sees your actual scores somewhere else. Points are only about turning up and getting through what was set.
Everything set for you in a week is worth something, and finishing all of it is worth more than any single piece of it.
| What you do | Points |
|---|---|
| Finish a worksheet | 15 |
| Finish a quiz | 15 |
| Sit a paper | 40 |
| Finish everything set for the week | 50 |
| Do a speed drill | 10 |
| Beat your own best at a drill | 5 |
A paper is worth four drills because it is a paper. A drill is two minutes and a paper is most of an hour with a clock running, so they are not the same thing and they should not pay the same.
The week bonus is the biggest single amount on the list. Finishing three things is worth more than three times finishing one, because the hard part is coming back on the third day, not doing the first worksheet.
This is deliberate and it is worth saying plainly. Getting more questions right does not earn you more points. A worksheet you found hard and got half of pays exactly what a worksheet you found easy and got all of pays.
If the score paid, then the person already finding it easy would earn the most, and the person who most needs to keep going would be told every week that there is no use trying. That is the wrong way round. Points measure whether you did the work. How you did is what the topic percentages and your report are for, and those matter too, just not here.
Nothing can be farmed, either. Each piece of work pays once. Marking a worksheet done, undone and done again does not pay three times.
Points add up to a level, and the level is the thing worth aiming at. There are ten. The early ones come quickly and the later ones take a term.
| Level | Name | Points needed |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | First Steps | 0 |
| 2 | Finding Your Feet | 100 |
| 3 | Steady | 300 |
| 4 | Confident | 600 |
| 5 | Sharp | 1,000 |
| 6 | Strong | 1,600 |
| 7 | Relentless | 2,400 |
| 8 | Formidable | 3,500 |
| 9 | Outstanding | 5,000 |
| 10 | Scholar | 7,500 |
Doing everything set for you in a week, with a drill most days, comes to somewhere around 150 to 200 points. So Scholar is about a school year away if you keep at it. It is meant to be a long way off. A level you can reach in a fortnight is not worth having.
A streak counts the days in a row you have done at least one speed drill. Do one today and one tomorrow and you are on two.
Today or yesterday keeps it going, so doing a drill in the morning one day and the evening the next is fine.
You get one rest day a week, and you do not have to ask for it. Miss a single day and your streak carries on as though you had been there. Miss a second day in the same week, or miss two days in a row, and it goes back to zero and starts again from your next drill.
The rest day exists because a streak that punishes you is a streak you give up on. Losing forty days because of one weekend away is the point where most people stop altogether, and stopping is the only outcome here that actually matters.
A streak is not worth points by itself. It is there because doing a little most days works better than doing a lot once, and the number is a reminder of that rather than a payment.
Badges are for things you did, not for things you got right. There are twelve and they do not expire.
| Badge | How you get it |
|---|---|
| First drill | Do a speed drill |
| A week in a row | Seven days of drills without a gap |
| A month in a row | Thirty days |
| A hundred days | A hundred days |
| First paper | Sit a full paper |
| Ten papers | Ten papers sat and marked |
| A full week | Finish everything set for you in one week |
| Four full weeks | Four of those |
| A term of full weeks | Twelve of those |
| First topic secure | A topic at 80% or better, across two sittings |
| Five topics secure | Five of those |
| Fifteen topics secure | Fifteen of those |
Locked ones still show on your dashboard, greyed out. A badge you cannot see is not something to aim at.
The two about topics being secure are the only place on this page where how well you did counts for anything, and even there it is across two sittings rather than one good day.
Every level from 2 upwards has a certificate with your name on it, and you can print it or save it as a PDF whenever you like. There is a button on your dashboard once you have reached one, and you can go back and print any level you have already passed.
There is no certificate for Level 1, because Level 1 is where everybody starts.
Reaching certain levels unlocks a new colour scheme for your dashboard. Forest at level 3, Sunset at 5, Ocean at 7 and Ink at 9. They change nothing except how it looks, and you can switch back whenever you like.
Every point on your account has a record of what earned it and when. Nothing is added by hand and nothing is taken away. If a number ever looks wrong, ask and it can be shown to you line by line.
If something here does not match what you are seeing on your dashboard, tell me and I will look at it. Get in touch, message on WhatsApp or email info@uplift-learning.co.uk.
