Complete preparation for selective and grammar entrance: English, Maths and Verbal Reasoning, so you need only one tutor. Note the CSSE exam is sat in the September of Year 6, so the real preparation years are 4 and 5.

I know what the 11+ actually feels like, because I went through it. I passed both the CSSE and CEM entrance exams and won a place at Westcliff High School for Boys, a selective grammar school in Southend, where I studied from Year 7 through to Year 13.
That experience shapes how I teach. I remember which topics genuinely catch students out, how much the timing matters, and how quickly confidence disappears when a paper feels too hard. Preparation should build a child up, not wear them down.
I went on to study Aerospace Engineering at Queen Mary University of London, graduating in 2026. I have been tutoring since February 2024 and have worked with over 60 students, both one-to-one and in small groups, from Year 1 through to Year 11. Most of my work is 11+ preparation, alongside Maths and Science for Years 7 to 10.
Every student is different, so nothing here is off the shelf. Lessons are built around what your child actually needs, and you will always know how they are getting on.

The approach

Questions
One-to-one lessons are £24 per hour. Small group sessions, with a maximum of five students, are £17 per hour per student. Book five sessions in advance and take 10% off. Your first 20-minute call is free either way, with no obligation.
Lessons run over Google Meet, so there is nothing to install. You will get a link before each session, and your child simply clicks it at the agreed time.
I share my screen and annotate worksheets and past questions with a pen as we work through them, so your child can see every step being written out rather than just hearing it.
Only a microphone is needed. Cameras are not required, and I usually keep mine off too so the focus stays on the work.
The CSSE exam is sat at the very start of Year 6, in September, which surprises a lot of families who assume it falls later in Year 6 as it does in other areas.
In practice that means the preparation years are Year 4 and Year 5, with the summer before Year 6 as the final push. Starting in Year 5 is perfectly workable. Starting in Year 4 gives a much calmer run at it.
If your child is already partway through Year 6, the CSSE has been and gone, but I can still help with Maths and Science as they settle into secondary school.
For 11+ and CSSE I cover the whole exam: English, Maths and Verbal Reasoning. You do not need a second tutor.
From Year 7 to Year 11 I teach Maths and Science, covering KS3 and GCSE Combined Science. I do not teach English beyond 11+ level.
Most of my work is 11+ preparation alongside Maths and Science for Years 7 to 10, which is where I am strongest. GCSE Triple Science is available by arrangement.
I hold a valid Basic DBS check and am happy to share the certificate with any parent on request. I would encourage you to ask, and to ask any tutor you consider.
To be completely straight with you, a Basic check shows unspent convictions only. An Enhanced check with the Children's Barred List is the higher standard, and until January 2026 self-employed tutors could not apply for one at all. That route has now opened and I am arranging mine. You can read my full safeguarding statement for how lessons are kept safe in the meantime.
A laptop, tablet or desktop with a working microphone and a reliable internet connection, plus a quiet space to work. Paper and a pen for working out. A headset helps but is not essential.
A camera is not needed for lessons. It is only required for mock exams, where I need to invigilate properly, and I will ask your permission first.
Yes. I set custom worksheets targeted at exactly what your child found difficult in the lesson, rather than generic homework. Little and often works far better than long sessions, so tasks are kept short and focused.
Both are taught by me and cover the same material. In a one-to-one lesson the whole hour is shaped around your child's own gaps and pace. In a small group, up to five students of similar age and ability follow a shared plan, so the pace is set for the group and my attention is divided.
Groups cost less and students often benefit from seeing how others approach a problem. If your child has specific gaps or an exam coming up, I would usually recommend one to one.
Yes. Book five sessions in advance and you save 10%, so £108 instead of £120 for one-to-one lessons, or £76.50 instead of £85 for group sessions. Booking a block also tends to be how students make the most progress, since the lessons stay regular.
By bank transfer, since lessons are online. I invoice after the session, and you can pay per lesson or weekly, whichever is easier for you. There is nothing to set up in advance and no card details are stored anywhere.
If you book a block of five sessions to take the 10% discount, that block is paid for upfront.
Life happens. Please give at least 24 hours notice and we will move the lesson to another slot at no cost. Just message me on WhatsApp and we will sort it out.

One to one or small group
Both are taught by me, cover the same material and use the same methods. What changes is how much of the lesson is shaped around your child alone.
The entire hour belongs to your child. I teach exactly what they are stuck on, at exactly their pace.
Best for: closing specific gaps, exam-year preparation, and children who find it hard to ask questions in front of others.
Up to five students of a similar age and ability work through a common plan together.
Best for: general reinforcement, keeping skills sharp, children who enjoy working alongside others, and families wanting a lower rate.
My honest advice. If your child has particular gaps, or an exam within the year, one to one will move them faster and it is what I would recommend. If they are broadly on track and you want steady reinforcement at a lower cost, a small group works well.
Many families do both: one-to-one lessons in the run-up to an exam, then group sessions to keep everything ticking over. Message me and I will tell you honestly which suits your child, even if it is the cheaper one.
